CEFCO presented $500,000 check benefiting local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Texas

On January 29th, 2020 CEFCO held a check presentation for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Through in-store balloon sales and their annual CEFCO Hackers-R-Us golf tournament, CEFCO presented check for $500,000 benefiting local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals located in Texas and other southern states. It is due to founders’ visionary leadership that has propelled CEFCO to be a leader of social good in our community. It is because of their dedication that CEFCO is helping to change children’s healthcare for the better.

CEFCO donations are put into action at each children’s hospital to make sure children get the best possible care. Care for children like Mhyrun, who began experiencing numbness in his left extremities and slurring his speech. After explaining his symptoms during a routine physical, Mhyrun was immediately reffered to a neurologist at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s. Numerous tests revealed signs of two “mini-strokes” caused by blocked arteries. Mhyrun was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease, a rare condition in which the arteries supplying blood to the brain become narrow or blocked.

Dr. Rabia Qaiser, a neurosurgeon specializing in Moyamoya, performed surgery to sew a scalp artery on to Mhyrun’s brain to restore blood flow. Moyamoya is a progressive disease, meaning that it will get worse over time and put Mhyrun at risk for more strokes and potentially permanent paralysis.

For their courage and perseverance, these children have been selected ambassadors to raise awareness for the 17 million kids treated each year at Children’s Miracle Network children’s hospitals. These ambassadors spend their year advocating for the charitable need of their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
